Lunch with Professor David Ewins, Pro Rector
(International Relations)
On 10 March 2002, Sunday, board members and
former board members had lunch with Professor
David Ewins, Pro Rector for International
Relations who came to Japan for public relations
about the research activities of Imperial
College, and with Mr Ferrar, First Secretary
of British Embassy.
Professor Ewins told us about the strategy
of Imperial College, which is to reorganise
its research activities into four areas,
Engineering, Life Sciences, Medicine, and
Physical Sciences supported by the Business
School and College staff, and to focus on
more practical outcome by cross-collaboration
among these four areas with industries.
New Rector, Sir Richard Sykes who is a former
chairman of Glaxo, seems to be keen to introduce
a corporate operation into the College operation
focussing more on collaboration with industries
or on spin-out from the College.
